Love is Under Me

Poetry by Ryan Oelke, Screenwriter & Director

Rooftop of Your Eyes

by Ryan Oelke

No longer will I hide
in the back alleys of my soul,
I’m climbing the stairs in your spine,
straight to the rooftops of your eyes.
Every motion becomes an offering to you,
countless seeds
thrown over groundless fields,
rolling laughter fills our ears.

Kept Awake

by Ryan Oelke

…and when I can’t fall asleep
I don’t complain,
how fortunate I am
to be kept awake
listening to the epigrams
you penned with my tenderness,
spoken with my tongue.

Listening, and I Become You

by Ryan Oelke

Listening with all of my doors,
like morning dew covering plains without end,
I open my eyes to find you already here, smiling.

Your voice springs forth from my stomach,
a spiraling vortex of clear light
working its way up my spine
until releasing through every pore of my body.

And I am left wondering,

Why am I holding on to so little
when the whole Kosmos
awaits in my chest,
and you in my breath?

Condensation of Love

by Ryan Oelke

This day collapsed
under the weight of timeless tears…
how I wish I could cry with your eyes,
breathe with your lungs
all the sadness
that evaporates
from the condensation of Love.

An Unexpected Kiss

by Ryan Oelke

An unexpected kiss
left my words dancing
without a care of finding one another,
and the interstices of my heart
gave way to your radiance…
taken with deep reds,
ensconced in your refulgence,
fingers running through
one another,
light passing through light…
and so an unexpected kiss
whispered silent beauty
through my body.

Parting of Our Lips

by Ryan Oelke

You held me so lovingly
as I took photographs
in between breaths,
even as I descended
back into madness,
but not before
you pulled the night sky
to my face,
reminding me
…these memories
are only what is born
from the parting of our lips.

Momentary Lapses

by Ryan Oelke

Momentary lapses
never distance us -
You’re everywhere
I’m waiting to be.
With my gaze returned
upon your face
I’ll listen to this silence
for eternity,
until your hands reach
through my heart
and your words
find their way to my lips.

A Chamber for Your Resonance

by Ryan Oelke

You throw me out of bed,
smile
and ask me
to sing your song to the world.
Lips trembling,
I open my mouth…
I am just a single note
in this infinite harmony,
a chamber for your resonance.
Won’t you wrap a blanket around me
for just a while longer?

Choiceless Remembrance

by Ryan Oelke

Sometimes the morning fog
slumbers ahead of the sunrise
and I cannot see
your face.
Then I am paused
in a flash of choiceless remembrance,
and for a moment
the shadows of this world
retreat behind your eyes
and I am found
once more.

Filled with You

by Ryan Oelke

Inhale.
Empty now,
I step backwards into you.
Filled with you,
I release
and become
your warm breath.
Exhale.
