Love is Under Me

Poetry by Ryan Oelke, Screenwriter & Director

A Beginning, Yielding to Love

by Ryan Oelke

In your Divine light
that shimmers like a million stars,
pouring through your every word,
jumping from your soft breath,
crackling on my skin
like the evening fire
that has for so long
consumed my dreams,
I arise,
lifted on the wings
of those angels
who play in your heart…
…and I have begun
to forget who I was not,
here
in this circle
that holds us,
reborn with you in every moment
as this beautiful, tender Mystery…

Fearless in Love

by Ryan Oelke

Too fearless to walk toward you
too in love to turn away…
these two keep shedding my skin,
one pushes,
the other pulls….
whether I let the infinitely accommodating sky
breathe me in without remainder
or I bury my face
in the nape of Autumn’s neck,
becoming her intoxicating scent,
I will always be a canvas
waiting in your mind,
and a seductive hand
in your heart.

Mirrored Heart

by Ryan Oelke

I traded places with Love today,
I am becoming its playground,
that immovable space
where it dreams awake all of our tender desire…
As I breathe
objects melt away without commemoration,
inspiration and respiration find themselves in my mirrored heart,
and Love moves through me without a trace
every turn no more dignified than another.

The Only Masquerade

by Ryan Oelke

Dancers poised
face to face,
our breath skirting
across each other’s lips,
backs to glass walls
lending us their eagerness and curiosity,
as temptation draws the first note
…do you hear it…?
A symphony reaches beyond the confines of our hearts
calling us to remove our masks,
revealing emerald crystals in our eyes,
through which we pass into and out of myriad worlds
dancing within ever changing ballrooms,
and with each blink of an eye
we’re born again,
a new mask is fashioned,
so we can hear that music
and dance again.

Mira

by Ryan Oelke

Mira, but just one of your names…
I felt you inside of me
before I could utter a word…
our orbits collided,
those surfaces melted
we for so long polished,
daydreaming of that night.
It was only by the mercy
of the vast, dark sky
that I was consumed in your light,
burst into boundless flames
across infinite eyes
searching for you,
just before you receded
into the black night,
where I could only
breathe in
the stream of light
that follows you
wherever you hide,
like the air
of an empty, beloved perfume bottle,
longing for the mercy of the night sky.

The Love Affair of the Lake and Wind

by Ryan Oelke

The lake always returns to stillness,
only to invite
and bat an eyelash at the wind,
to come and stir its waters
to bring forth the ripples and waves.
Some nights the wind dances
across the lake
like a whisper on the back of her ear,
begging to come closer,
other nights the wind ravishes
the lake
with waves so high
the trees blush
and wonder if they should look the other way.
Always they return from whence they came,
to reunite under the moon once more,
sharing with the night
the secrets of their eternal
love affair.

Throw Away the Handcuffs

by Ryan Oelke

We are Love shaking hands with itself,
so I’m throwing away the handcuffs…
And now I see your light extends
far beyond the beautiful contours of your skin,
so vast I could never point to a single place
and say,
“you are not here”.
And so I let go
into you
through you
because everywhere
I am already, effortlessly embraced.

Overgrown

by Ryan Oelke

I thought I felt the sun today…
perhaps my heart is overgrown
because the wind swept my petals
away,
and left a somber song
flowing through these veins.

Angel of Words

by Ryan Oelke

What could I possibly give
to an Angel of Words?
You leaned in,
nuzzling my neck
and the iron in my chest
melted, flowing
like a mountain spring
rushing joyfully
to embrace the ocean
over impossible distances
…and your eyes…
forged me into stars
and I could see myself
in you.
